My name is Patricia Harris and I am a very proud member of the Santiago High School Math Department. I am a fifteen year teacher in the Corona Norco Unified School District and did my student teaching in the Jurupa Valley Unified School District at what was then known as Rubidoux High School. For the whole of my teaching career I have been privileged to work at Santiago High School. During my tenure, I have taught Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. I have served as a Professional Learning Committee (PLC) Leader for Geometry for the 2014-2015 school year and will continue to next year. In 2007, I started working at Norco College as a part-time instructor for Geometry and College Algebra. Since the birth of my daughter in 2010, I am on an extended leave of absence from that position.
I am a graduate of the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics as well as a graduate of California State University, Fullerton with a Masters of Arts in Mathematics. I truly love my subject matter and hope to bring that love to my students.
The purpose of this Capstone Project is to create a digital library and discussion board for the Santiago Math Department. With the transition to Common Core Standards and Practices as well as to Integrated Math, I feel that collaboration and discussion among peers is of the utmost importance. I want to create a place where teachers can access lessons but also comment on them with the desired outcome of bringing about the best lessons our teachers can create. I know there many places online where this can be done but the places I have found are national in scale. I want to see what the micro effect would be in the space - start with a group of teachers who know each other and give them an additional place (rather than a face to face meeting that cannot happen everyday) to work from work or if they so desire from home. In addition to this very concrete goal, I would also like to bring together a groups of people who have thus far have not worked together. While there is, I believe a mutual respect among individuals members, we have not worked together as a team before this year.
As for the website and library aspect, I would like to see this go beyond our Math Department. I would like to see it on a school wide scale. Because I believe that the ways that we share now can be improved and made more efficient to bring the best of our faculty. Teaching is not a profession that should not be done in isolation, but in cooperation with other teachers who have the same passion for student learning,
